The medical community wasn’t quite ready for what sort of information could be compromised with the evolution of technology. As a patient, it’s very important to stay tuned into what can go wrong and what can happen if your information is compromised.
1.Avoid online transactions or exchange of information. Though it may be tempting, if you input your medical information through a website it is then out there for the taking. Whether it’s through your doctor or hospital directly or particularly if it’s through a third party vendor, resist the temptation to input your information through a website. This may be convenient, but it also offers up a firsthand way for thieves to access your information and then run with it.

2.Ask your doctors for copies of everything in your medical file. Though it may seem like a cumbersome task or you may feel like a pain to your doctor, you have a right and an obligation to get copies of everything in your medical files. This doesn’t require much effort on the part of your doctor’s office, but it can help you to be aware of what’s going on. This is a great way to ensure that there is no compromise of the information that you hold to be the most private as well.

3.Be aware of where your insurance card is at all times. Though we don’t think of it as such, your insurance card can be used as a credit card if put in the wrong hands. Though many of us panic about our credit cards if our wallet is stolen, we should also be aware of the whereabouts of our insurance card as well. Before you wait for somebody to use your card for services that are not yours, keep this card close to you at all times.

4.Inquire about your doctor’s disposal policy for confidential information. It never hurts to ask about how your doctor or hospital utilizes and stores your medical information. You have a right to know this as a patient and therefore you should keep tuned into this fact. Most offices should have a standard practice for handling things and should have no problem whatsoever with sharing that with you.

5.Keep tuned into possible scams. Who would have thought years ago that there would be scams within the medical community? Unfortunately there are plenty of hackers and even workers who know just how valuable patient information can be. That being said, it’s imperative that you as a patient stay tuned in and aware of what these scams may be. Stay educated, stay aware, and never turn your back for one second when it comes to your most personal information.

We always assume that our medical information stays private, but what if it somehow got compromised? The truth is that you as a patient need to stay tuned in and aware of what can possibly go wrong if your most important information is compromised.

A friend of mine came to my office to have our lunch together.  Over the meals, she told me about her problem on the dental insurance she have.  She told me that some of the privileges that they offer are sometimes not available.  According to her dentist, she should have some periodental work but her dental insurance cannot cover such procedure.

I told her that she should change her dental insurance and instead avail of the dental plan which I do have for myself.  I told her that becoming a member of this discount plan will allows her to enjoy the significant savings, excellent customer service and an extensive selection of comprehensive plans. Also, this dental health plan strives to make using her money-saving discount dental plan as easy as possible.  With this in their mind, they provide their members with immediate online enrollment and quick activation.  After our meal, she decided to have this dental plan for herself to have that healthy smiles!
